Do Your Feet Hurt? And Why is that?

Feet are a very complicated part of the human form, and they probably don't get enough respect.  Did you know:

- About three quarters of the US population will experience foot problems at some time in their lives; over half of them are over the age of 50, but about 35% are between the ages of 18-24 - Your feet have almost a quarter of all the bones in your body – 26 bones in each foot. - There are more than 60 joints, 200 ligaments, and 35 muscles in your feet. - The soles of your feet contain more sweat glands and nerve-endings than any other part of your body; approximately 250,000 sweat glands in a pair of feet! - Standing in one spot is worse on your feet than walking; you're only using a few muscles and for a long time – rather than spreading the load among various muscles. - During an average day of walking, the total forces on your feet can total hundreds of tons. Equivalent to the average weight of a cement truck fully loaded!! - Women are four times more likely to experience foot problems than men …. Gotta love those Jimmy Choos! - If you're an average walker, you're taking between 8,000 and 10,000 steps A DAY!

Considering the complexity of your feet and the abuse you're giving them, you should start thinking about the care you give them.  Pamper your feet, they work hard for you!  Try this routine:

- Soak your feet in warm water and 1/2 cup of epsom salts for 20 minutes or so. Dress it up with rose petals or crushed lavender.  Even a few drops of peppermint oil will be refreshing. - Apply a moisturizer; again peppermint is a good choice, and massage for increased circulation. - For rough spots or really dry feet exfoliate to soften. You can use a pumice or an exfoliating lotion. - Want to really pamper? Apply soothing oil and wrap in a warm moist towel. Prop your feet up for ten minutes or so; then, moisturize and put on clean socks overnight.  The next morning you'll be thoroughly pleased at the difference.

For problems with your feet – serious foot pain, or heel pain, or plantar fasciitis, you'll need more than a pedicure and a massage.  And it probably isn't gel inserts or ugly shoes!  Good Feet Stores have 25 different styles of arch supports in more than 350 sizes and rigidities to fit in virtually ANY shoe and give you foot pain relief fast.
