Long ago in 1961, a competent team of programmers led by Steve "Slug" Russell developed the world's first gaming: Spacewar. A lot has changed since that time, however the fundamentals of the items constitutes a good gaming are still the same now as they were during the 1960s.

Of course, because it ran on a DEC PDP-1 computer, not many people reached play Spacewar. For most of us, myself included, their first introduction to the world of video games was Space Invaders, that was introduced in 1978.

Space invaders was designed and produced by Toshihiro Nishikado, as they was working for japan company Taito Corporation. Although Space Invaders would be a simple game with simple graphics, it was a massive success. The reason for this was 'game play', which is probably the single most important facet of any computer game. Without them, a game title rarely is in successful. Even today (2012), the incredible video sophistication available to games developers isn't any substitute for good old-fashioned game play.

An interesting point to note about Space Invaders is that Nishikado had originally planned to use tanks or airplanes as the attacking force, but the computers of the time were too slow to let the tanks turn and move smoothly, so the familiar aliens were used instead. Nishikado might have used humans rather than aliens, but he felt this could have been morally wrong.

The 1980s

Throughout the 1980s, arcade games became extremely popular in establishments for example pubs, bars, hotels, and so on. These games were not, overall, liberated to play and that i can remember spending more money playing the games than on beer! Companies for example Atari had been dominant within the games market because the late 1970s, and initially the 1980s were a boom period for companies involved in the industry. During the course of the decade though, the marketplace became flooded, quite often with poor quality games, by no more the decade the industry had largely crashed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

There is, however, a new emergence in this area - small hand held devices for example Nintendo's GameBoy started to become popular, and would will continue to play a significant role in the games industry to this day.

The 1990s

During the 1990s the recording games industry saw a gentle transition from two-dimensional (2D) graphics to more realistic and visually pleasing 3D graphics. The decade also saw the emergence of new genres of game such the very first person shooter, real-time strategy, survival horror, and MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online).

Handheld gaming continued to achieve popularity through the decade. Although arcade games remained as fairly popular in early 1990s, using home consoles gradually pushed them from the market. And, of course, the 1990s saw the invention around the globe Wide Web, which may revolutionise the gaming industry throughout the next decade.

The 2000s

In the home video market, the 2000s was a decade that was covered with companies for example Sony, Nintendo, and - to a lesser extent - Microsoft. Within the 1980s and 1990s, Sega have been Nintendo's main rival, but the company left the console market in 2002 in favor of going back to the third-party company they were in the past. The gradual increase in computer processing power from the 1990s and through the 2000s enabled developers to create immersive and interactive gaming environments, developing a more realistic and enjoyable gaming environment.

Influence around the globe Wide Web

In the past from the web within the mid-1990s, the mixture of a insufficient computing power and slow transmission rates resulted in on the internet didn't exist. As computers became more powerful and transmission speeds increased during the 2000s, online gaming slowly became popular. Technologies such as Flash enabled sophisticated games to be developed fairly easily. These games could then be integrated or embedded into webpages and run inside a web browser.

As well as traditional games such as driving, adventure, action, puzzles or shooting games, the gambling industry is a massive winner because of the Internet. Gambling online and gaming websites are incredibly popular and supply a good way for adults to sign up in gambling activities. Strict laws in lots of countries be sure that the sites are properly regulated.

There's also lots of sites providing free casino games that use virtual money so there isn't any financial risk at all in participating in the games, many of which allow you to play others all over the world.

Conclusion

Video games can provide a little bit of light entertainment for a few minutes, or they are able to offer almost total immersion - and just about everything among. The progression of game titles since Steve Russell's Spacewar continues to be dramatic. Who knows what the future holds?
