Affiliate Marketing Tip - Always Redirect Your Affiliate Links

Here's a lesson I learned hard way... always redirect your affiliate links. There's a couple of good reasons to do that. You're not as likely to possess your affiliate commissions stolen is one of them, but more importantly, redirected links look neater and end in higher conversions. Getting your links redirected also enables you to measure that conversion because you can tell how often your links are clicked on. Last but not least, this will make it simple to change links if your merchant decides to change affiliate marketing programs or whenever a method is no more available.

Here's a quick tip. Use something generic for the redirect link rather than a product name. This way you can easily change it out to another product if the original one no more converts well or you're not happy recommending it any longer. But exactly how would you redirect your links? There are some different easy options. I'll share the four most common ones with you here:

cPpanel Redirects

For those who have cPanel hosting, there's an easy way to set up and manage your redirects. Log into your cPanel and look for the redirects option under preferences. Always choose a permanent redirect. Next you wish to pick the domain you want to redirect from. You'll find a summary of domains you have hosted in this particular cPanel account. Pick the one you would like, and then produce the file name for your redirect (i.e. greenwidget). Finally, add the link you would like the redirect to point to... in this case your affiliate link. Save your changes, test out your link and you are done.

301 Redirects

Of course you can also hard code your 301 redirects inside your.htaccess file. It is a simple line of code that you simply add to this particular file. I suggest utilizing an ftp program like FileZilla to change your files. Log to your hosting account via ftp and look for the.htaccess file in your root directory. This will be significant: Begin by making a backup copy of the current file. Then edit the file to incorporate a type of code with the redirection information. It'll seem like this:

Save your valuable file and upload it to your server. Test your redirect.

HTML Meta Refresh Redirects

Another option is something called an html meta refresh redirect. I made use of these a great deal back when the majority of my sites where constructed with Microsoft FrontPage. If you look for "html meta refresh redirect" inside your favorite search engine, you'll find some examples and code you can copy and paste. You simply create a new html document with the name you'd like your redirect connect to have (i.e. bestbluewidget.html), paste the code inside and replace the sample affiliate link with your own. Upload the html file to your server and test the redirect.

Redirection Wordpress tool

If you are using WordPress to handle your site or blog (that we highly recommend you do), there's an even easier option. It's a plugin called "Redirection". It enables you to create custom 301 redirects from inside your WordPress admin panel. Just go into the name of your redirect link (i.e. /dailyaffiliatetasks ) and the full http version of your affiliate link. Not only will this plugin produce the redirect for you personally, additionally, it monitors how frequently that link is visited making it easy for you to keep tabs on conversions and discover what's working and just what isn't. This really is undoubtedly my favorite method to create redirects since i have can do it right inside the WordPress admin area. You don't need to open additional programs or log in to the cPanel. Give it a try.
