Basic Melting Instructions

First things first.

Scentsy - Take every possible precaution to protect yourself and those around you when you work with hot wax.

Candle making is enjoyable, but can be dangerous if you're not careful.

Make sure you have a fire extinguisher close by. You should also take the time to get familiar with its working.

Always have an eye on melting wax. Never let wax temperature exceed 250 degrees F.

A candy thermometer is also very important to make sure the temperature does not run wild.

Wax Melts - A double boiler is essential. Wax should never ever be boiled directly on the stove. Will be explained shortly.

What is a double boiler?

You will need 2 pots. One for boiling some water and a smaller one to put into the water pot for melting the wax in.

We need this double boiler, because it assists us in the candle making process. It helps to regulate the temperature and also prevents the wax from scorching as it is not being boiled directly on the heat. The heat is also transmitted evenly.

You do not need some new fancy pots for this purpose as it is a messy hobby. Use some old pots that you don't want or need anymore.

Here's how you do it.

1. Get your old pots out.

2. Add a bit of water to bring t the boil.

3. Once your water boils, place the smaller pot (pouring pot) into the boiling water.

4. You could lower the heat as you don't really need boiling water.

5. Candles - Now you can start melting the wax. It is very important to monitor the temperature constantly. No higher than 230 ºF.

6. Also check the water and if need be add some more.

Now that you know how to melt wax the right way and still look out for your safety in the process, you can move on and be creative...
